Preston Testing & Engineering Company, Inc.

	Our testing laboratory was founded in 1965 under the name of S.J. Gostin Company, Inc. As the years passed, our work volume steadily increased. In January of 1973, the materials testing laboratory of S.J. Gostin officially became Preston Testing & Engineering Company, Inc. under the full supervision and ownership of J. Ray Preston, P.E. The net effect of the name and ownership change allowed the laboratory to become a truly independent laboratory, rather than a subsidiary of a parent company. In May of 2006, Cathy Davis and Willie Goad became the owners, with Cathy having the majority of shares, making it a woman-owned minority company.

In the firm's early years, Preston Testing & Engineering Company, Inc. (PT&E) provided primarily materials testing services, including field and laboratory testing of soils and concrete, as well as subsurface geotechnical investigations. Over time, the service offerings expanded to include asphalt sampling and testing. Beginning in the late 80's and continuing, federal regulators ushered the firm into environmental monitoring services. Through education and training of existing staff, as well as through strategic hires, PT&E's service offerings expanded to include wetland delineation and permitting, and asbestos inspection, testing and documentation. Environmental service offerings now also include Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments. New NPDES regulations prompted the firm's entry into erosion and sedimentation monitoring and reporting. Currently, Preston Testing & Engineering Company, Inc. provides a wide range of materials testing services to our clients throughout the state of Georgia.

From 1965 though 2002, Preston Testing & Engineering Company, Inc. operated out of offices on Vineville Avenue in Macon, having approximately 5500 square feet of available workspace. Due to an increase in staffing, as well as workspace requirements, a larger office was needed. Subsequently, a new 10,500 square foot office was built in 2002, on Preston Court off New Forsyth Road. These new offices provided much needed space for a full-service concrete laboratory, storage area, and curing room; an asphalt laboratory; a soils laboratory; and, office space for our staff.
